Last year, a federal law was enacted that requires electronic prescribing for controlled substances (EPCS) prescribed through the Medicare Part D drug program. In addition, Walmart will ban paper prescriptions in its pharmacies starting in 2020. More than a dozen states have also mandated EPCS with effective dates in the next couple of years.
